European Works Councils case studies: the Suez group
Published: 16 October 2008
In September 1994, the Council of Ministers decided on a Directive on the establishment of a European Works Council (EWC) for the purposes of informing and consulting employees (94/45/EC). The emergence of EWCs is a major part of the development of an industrial relations system at European level. The agreement setting up the Suez EWC was negotiated and signed on 31 May 1995, then adapted to the changes in Suez negotiated between the partners through the amendments of 19 November 1999 and 21 June 2001.
