Background
The European Employment Forum is an annual conference and exhibition focusing on the major social and economic issues surrounding employment and creating an effective discussion and meeting forum.
The theme of this year's Forum - Attaining growth through change - highlights the need for the European Union to introduce and drive change in order to achieve sustained growth. In 3 key sessions, the conference will be devoted to 3 issues that are high on the agenda in every EU country:
Youth employment
Social inclusion
Enterprise
The two-day conference will feature a broad international panel of speakers presenting current thinking and policy and attracts a wide range of individuals, businesses, social partners and government policy makers from across the EU and beyond.
Eurofound contribution
Research Manager Massimiliano Mascherini will make a presentation on the real challenges faced by new entrants to the labour market in Session 1 on Tuesday 12 November at 10:00-10:45
Session 1: Recapturing the ‘lost generation’ and creating jobs for young people - Encountering and coping with life transitions
As much as we might like to exclude unemployment from this discussion we have to recognise its existence and accept that it is a phase and not a ‘status’. The next phase may be towards further education, employment or self-employment. What are the real issues the youth of the EU encounter when making these transitions? The public employment services (PES) need to become transition brokers – what is the future vision of PES? What other measures are being undertaken to help NEETS (Young people Not in Education, Employment or Training)?
The full programme is available.
