Experts workshop on monitoring convergence in the European Union

13 June 2017 - 14 June 2017
Event background
The European Union is committed to economic, social and territorial cohesion, inclusive growth and upward economic convergence. Monitoring convergence within and between Member States, particularly convergence in living and working conditions, was introduced as strategic area of invention in Eurofound’s four-year work programme for 2017–2020.
The Agency aims to examine convergence across a range of dimensions: employment, social protection, working conditions, social cohesion, quality of life and socioeconomic factors. To bring outside expertise to inform this work, Eurofound hosted an expert workshop at its Dublin premises on 13–14 June, with the theme ‘Monitoring convergence in the European Union’. It sought to elicit preliminary answers on what actors, factors and policies can succeed in restoring upward convergence and promoting the concept of social convergence in the EU.
The workshop also provided insights for the Agency’s upcoming flagship event, the Foundation Forum 2017, taking place in Dublin on 14–15 November.
