Europe at a crossroads. Which way to quality jobs and prosperity?

This conference is organised by the European Trade Union Institute (ETUI), the independent research and training centre of the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) in Brussels from 24 to 26 September 2014.

It will bring together high-level trade unionists and influential intellectuals to debate the future of action and research on the growing problem of unemployment and precarious job creation in Europe. It aims at creating a debate between the European Commission, trade unionists and researchers to discuss the frontiers of research and constructively influence the ongoing debate on the way forward for Europe.

A panel entitled 'Ageing workforce – Is it possible without better working conditions' will be organised to specifically address the following questions:

• How longer can they work?

• What are the health and safety implications?

• What are the challenges for occupational health?

• What does the European Commission need to do to properly address this issue?

Greet Vermeylen, Research Manager at Eurofound’s Working Conditions and Industrial Relations Unit, will give a presentation on the working conditions of the ageing workforce.
