15th European Social Services Conference - Opportunity for all: the challenge for social and health services in a diverse Europe

The Foundation will contribute to the 15th European Social Services Conference organised annually by the European Social Network. The 2007 conference is presented in cooperation with the German Presidency of the European Union.

The Foundation will participate in a workshop on Monday 18 June, 16.00-17.30, with the following contribution:

Promoting equal opportunity and fighting social exclusion for children: developments in out-of-school childcare in disadvantaged areas of Europe

In the European Union, 68 million people live in risk of poverty; of these, children are among the most vulnerable. One element of the EU social policy agenda to promote equal opportunities and fight poverty among children is the provision of out-of-school childcare, especially in areas with a high density of households experiencing poverty and deprivation. With reference to a current Europe-wide research project on childcare provision across all sectors of service-providers, the workshop explores the contribution of these initiatives to combating social exclusion and improving quality of life for children and highlights current and future priorities for policy in an EU context.
