Since its launch in 1990 the European Working Conditions Survey (EWCS) has provided an overview of working conditions in Europe in order to assess and quantify working conditions of both employees and the self employed across Europe on a harmonised basis. The resulting analyses of issues of concern and of progress are a contribution to European policy development.

The fifth EWCS was carried out in 2010. The Slovenian government contributed to increase the sample size in Slovenia allowing for a deeper analysis at national level. Eurofound's Greet Vermeylen will present the results of the extended module today at an event in the Ministry of Labour, Family and Social Affairs.

The report is aimed at helping policymakers improve working conditions in Slovenia, both at the level of legislative framework and the management and organisation. Workers in Slovenia report working more hours, lower levels of satisfaction with working conditions, experiencing higher job insecurity, as well as more presenteeism and less absenteeism. Also, the majority of respondents reported experiencing stress at work (78.9%) and overall fatigue was a major issues for more than 40%. Meanwhile, violence and harassment in Slovenia is on average at similar levels as in the rest of Europe. of work in workplaces.

A presentation of key findings is available.
