Event background
Seminar on: Out of economic recession for sustainable welfare: 'Irish and Finnish Tigers' strategic choices, 13 May 2009, Dublin, Ireland
An event organised in collaboration with the Embassy of Finland in Ireland, Ireland, the Finnish Work Environment Fund, and EU WORK-IN-NET.
Objectives
The purpose of the seminar is to gain a better understanding of the national strategic policies selected to come out of present - and past - economic recessions and how to build sustainable welfare policies. Comparisons between the 'Irish and Finnish tigers' strategic choices in the last twenty years will be made. Strategies include economic, social and working life solutions.
Looking at their past histories, there are good reasons to analyse similarities and differences between the two countries:
What were the Irish and Finnish strategic choices in the early 1990s to recover from recession?
What happened with the IT bubble and how economic strategies were changed?
What are the strategic choices in this ongoing global recession and what will the future bring?
Further information is available in the programme.
Participants
Irish and Finnish representatives of the social partners as well as researchers and Irish-Finnish Business Club members. By invitation only.
